HOUMA, LA (WVUE) -

An extension cord literally led Terrebonne Parish authorities to a pair of burglars who are accused of stealing from a deceased neighbor’s home.

Shawn Michael Willet, 34, and Kaina Nicole Guidry, 35, both of Houma were caught with several items taken from the home.

Sunday around 3 p.m., Terrebonne Parish deputies and detectives responded to the 800 block of Eagle Drive in Houma on a call for a home burglary.

The home was unoccupied because of a recent death.

Investigators discovered a broken window in the back of the house.

There was a safe, jewelry and other miscellaneous items stolen from this residence. Detectives then found an extension cord plugged into an outlet in the burglarized house.

That extension cord led to the neighbor’s house located in the 900 block of Eagle Drive.

Armed with a search warrant, detectives searched the house and recovered the safe among other stolen items.

Detectives took Willett and Guidry in for questioning where they were charged with burglary, theft of utilities and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Willett and Guidry remain in the Terrebonne Parish Jail. Willet bond is $50,000.00 and Guidry bond is $20,000.00.
