NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The federal government wants phone companies to create technology that will automatically block some robocalls.

The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission sent a letter to phone companies the week of July 17, asking the companies to come up with blocker ideas within 30 days.

Chairman Tom Wheeler notes it's important to get industry help on this matter because robocalls exist due in large part to what he calls "industry inaction." He's concerned about the calls because many are setup by con artists.
