NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

New Orleans police hope a surveillance photo will help them identify a man wanted for stealing a car at a St. Roch-area gas station.

It happened last Tuesday outside the Shell gas station in the 3200 block of Elysian Fields.

Police said around 4 p.m., the owner of a 2000 black Nissan Pathfinder left the car running and went inside the store. Shortly after, surveillance video showed a man walk up to the Nissan, get in and drive away.

The victim tried running after his car, and then received a ride from a good Samaritan. The victim said he later located his car in the 3700 block of Pauger Street. The suspect was seen exiting the vehicle and running away.

If you can help police identify the man wanted for stealing the car, call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
