The New Orleans Police Department reminded residents of simple steps to avoid becoming victims of auto burglary as detectives released new surveillance images of a man wanted in connection with a vehicle burglary near the intersection of St. Charles Avenue and St. Philip Street.

The NOPD said the man approached the SUV around 1:50 a.m. on July 5, illegally entered the vehicle and stole loose coins before riding away on a bicycle.

Detectives said car, truck and SUV owners should remember to lock their vehicles' doors, as well as close windows and sunroofs. They also advised against leaving electronics, wallets and other valuables in plain sight and to put them in the truck before reaching your destination.
