N.O. East shooting victims were mom, son

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans police are investigating a shooting incident in New Orleans East that claimed the life of a mother and her son.

The incident occurred Tuesday night in the 7100 block of Edgefield Drive.

According to police, responding officers arrived on scene and found 44-year-old Freddy Burgess inside of the house, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police said his mother, 59-year-old Debra Burgess, had also been shot inside the home. She was taken to the hospital, where she later died, according to police.

Officers found Freddy Burgess' three children, all under the age of 13, at the home. None of the juveniles was injured.

The investigation into the incident continues.
