Brees briefly talks contract during first day of training camp

WEST SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WVUE) - Drew Brees talked about his contract on this first day of Saints training camp in West Virginia.

During Thursday morning's news conference, the quarterback said he thought negotiations would be easier, but he understands things like these take time.

The quarterback would like to get it done before the season starts.

On the field in White Sulfur Springs, WV, the first of 14 workouts at The Greenbrier, and 84 players saw action. It is a typical start to a training camp.

There were plenty of group drills eventually breaking off into seven-on-seven workouts, and from there to 11-on-11 team drills.

A couple of notes from Thursday's practice: Craig Robertson had the camp's first interception, picking off Brees. Rookie Vonn Bell had the second, also picking off Brees. Defense definitely won the day. All in all, it was a very active first day of training camp here at the Greenbrier.

"Thought the tempo was pretty good. We're a little ahead of schedule on when we finished and all. I thought the periods moved pretty cleanly. we'll look at the film," Coach Sean Payton said.

Once again it is the first of 14 open workouts at the Greenbrier, part of 30 practices spread out between The Greenbrier, New England, Houston and of course in Metairie. And that is not including the afternoon workouts which happen almost daily.
