NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

New Orleans police arrested 18-year-old Lenton Van Buren in connection with an aggravated assault with a firearm and false imprisonment in New Orleans East.

Investigators say on Sunday, July 31 around 3:40 p.m., NOPD Seventh District officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 4500 block of Schindler Street. NOPD Special Operations Division officers were notified of the situation and a SWAT roll was activated on the residence.  After evacuating family members from the residence, SWAT team members confronted Van Buren in the attic of the home, where he surrendered to police without incident.

New Orleans had active warrants on Van Buren for charges in two previous incidents charges including: aggravated battery by shooting, aggravated assault with a firearm and illegal discharge of a firearm stemming from a December 2015 incident. New Orleans police say Van Buren is also believed to be responsible for an aggravated assault with a firearm that occurred on Friday, July 29, at the intersection of Roger Drive and Wright Road.

Van Buren has also been charged with aggravated assault with a firearm and false imprisonment in this incident.
