NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Pope Francis tasks a Vatican panel with studying whether women should take on new leadership roles in the church.
The panel put together Aug. 2 will explore the possibility of allowing women to become roman catholic deacons. It was first promised by the pope after a meeting with a group of nuns in May.
This is the third church study to consider this issue since 1992. Two previous studies, which lasted years, did not lead to change.
