METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - Michael Mauti's blocked punt and recovery not only ignited a Saints 31-21 victory, it gave the Mandeville native a signature moment with the Black and Gold.
This summer the Who Dat nation let Mauti know its still a major and magical moment in the 2015 season.
"It didn't register until the offseason. Some time away from the facility, let it all kind of sync in a little bit," said Saints linebacker Michael Mauti. "Being back home, and having that play and that moment. Of course, there was a lot of people back home talking about it, and it's exciting."
Mauti's block against the Falcons was no doubt the top play of his young career, but he's ready to make more highlights in the future.
"I'm ready to do more of those things, that's where my focus has been. That was last year. Let's turn the page, and let's do it again," said Mauti.
Mauti's father, Rich, played for Saints in the late 70's and early 80's, so Michael has Black and Gold in his blood. He wants to continue playing for his childhood favorite team, even though the linebacking group expanded this offseason.
"For me personally, just making sure I'm detailed on my assignments, and making plays. Last year I was here week one. Wherever they needed me kind of filled in, but now that I have my feet settled a little bit, in different spots.
Just get as good as I can at my position, and backup roles wherever that is. Play some linebacker, play some special teams. Anything they need me to do, that's what I'm going to do," said Mauti.
