WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, WV (WVUE) - The Saints defense fell to last in many categories in 2015 with teams racking up yards, and points with ease. The Saints try to fix those problems in free agency by locking up former Auburn star Nick Fairley. The defensive lineman bled black and gold since childhood, which swayed his choice of teams.
"That feels real good actually. Growing up as a kid that's the team I actually rooted for growing up," said Fairley. "To be able to come here and play for this team is a real joy for me. My mom is going to be able to come to each home game, and some away games with Atlanta, Carolina, and down there in Tampa. It just feels real good to know that growing up in Mobile, and New Orleans was the team that we rooted for. Everybody back home is rooting for me, cause
they're happy I'm playing for this team."
"I sensed he wanted to be here. Mobile isn't too far away. I don't know that that was the deciding factor," said Saints Head Coach Sean Payton. "He understood the role that we envisioned. He's someone—I think he enjoys playing. He will be a guy that is competing for snaps in the base, inside, and also in the sub. I think we improved ourselves in the interior of our defensive line noticeably."
Now he's a two-hour drive from home, and it appears all is well in his professional and personal life.
"It's going great, I feel real good, I'm at a good place in my life. I got a girl who's three months, Nora. I'm smiling now, I'm happy," said Fairley.
