(WVUE) - Heavy early-morning rain south of Lake Pontchartrain allowed for some ponding on the roads.
Continuing light to moderate rain could make for a messy commute and first day of school for many students. The prolonged and overnight timing of showers are associated with all the moisture being pushed into the area by a weak low sitting along the Florida coast.
Pop-up showers and storms will still be possible this afternoon with ample moisture and daytime heating. Highs will top out in the upper 80s and low 90s.
While there does not appear to be a threat for tropical development, the tropical moisture to our east brings a rain risk.
Some locations could see as much as five to eight inches during the week. Spread out that will be no big deal, but a few spots could get isolated short-term weather that could lead to some flash flooding.
