NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - The New Orleans City Planning Commission will take up controversial short term rentals and how to regulate them in the city.
A proposal to legalize and monitor such rentals is expected to come up for a vote this afternoon.
One of the issues to be settled involves the idea of allowing whole-house rentals, managed by owners and managers who would not be on-site.
While short-term rentals are illegal, there is currently no way to enforce the law, so many homeowners have their properties posted on websites like airbnb.com
The commission's role is to make recommendations to the City Council, which would then have the final vote on any short-term rental system.
The meeting is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at City Hall.
