NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

After an hours-long hearing Tuesday, the city Planning Commission voted that the practice of renting out entire homes for short periods should be banned in New Orleans, while the renting of rooms should be allowed.

Our partners at NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune report that the vote was 8-1, with Commission Nolan Marshall being the sole opponent. Whole home rentals would be allowed for 30 days out of the year such as during special events like Jazz Fest.

The Commission rejected a proposal to allow entire homes to be converted to vacation rentals year-round.
