MARRERO, LA (WVUE) -

State Fire Marshal investigators and detectives from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office continue to piece together the circumstances surrounding a fire where the body of a man was found inside a burning vehicle in Marrero.

Investigators were called Friday morning after crews responded to a fire at 1129 Martin Drive shortly after 9 a.m. The vehicle was fully engulfed in flames in the backyard of a residence.

After the fire was extinguished, crews discovered the severely burned and lifeless body of a man in the passenger area of the vehicle, which was destroyed by flames. The adjacent wood-framed home sustained only minor damage from the heat of the burning vehicle.

After being examined by investigators, the body was released to the Jefferson Parish coroner for autopsy, which will determine the official cause of death.

Details about the cause of the fire are being withheld pending the ongoing investigation.
