NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Friday was a soaker for the area especially on the North Shore where some areas of northern Tangipahoa, Livingston and St Helena parishes have seen 15+ inches of rain. The rain and flood threat will continue Saturday and Saturday night.
In addition, historic river flooding is expected or is occurring across the North Shore. Please take the advice of authorities if you are asked to evacuate.
All of the rainfall is the result of low pressure causing slowly moving across the region. While this system had no official tropical distinction, it sure looks like one as it is drawing in plenty of tropical moisture to fuel the storms.
It will make a very slow transit across the area. We may finally see some relief by Sunday as a system from the north pulls the low away and allowing us to get back to a more typical August pattern of scattered storms with plenty of sunny breaks as we get into next week.
The tropics are quiet and development is not expected over the next five days.
