JEFF DAVIS PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A New Orleans man pleaded guilty to molesting a 7-year-old girl in Jefferson Parish and received a 25 year sentence Monday.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said Ulysses Maxwell, 43, pleaded guilty to sexual battery of a juvenile younger than 13 and cyberstalking.
The Sheriff's Office said Maxwell admitted to molesting a 7-year-old girl in the child's grandmother's home on the west bank in 2014. The victim reported the abuse to her grandmother, but the grandmother did not alert authorities. Investigators said several months later, the child told her mother, who then notified the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office. Meantime, the victim's father and her mother's boyfriend found Maxwell and beat him up.
After being attacked, Maxwell text messaged the following note to the mother's boyfriend: "You know yall should have killed me now my turn. You a died man."
The text message served as the basis for the cyberstalking charge.
A judge sentenced him to 25 years in prison. He will also have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life after his release from prison. The plea deal means Maxwell will avoid trial.
