Who Dat Making Headlines: Local celebrities impacted by Louisiana floodwaters

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

Floodwaters ripped through the home of actor Wendell Pierce over the weekend in Louisiana.

The "Treme" actor did not post any pictures of the damage but did express through social media that the loss reminds him "of the generosity given" to his family.

The Louisiana native's childhood home was also impacted by Hurricane Katrina 11 years ago. Pierce encouraged his Twitter followers to help out by tweeting numbers to the American Red Cross and Baton Rouge Food Bank.

Pop star Britney Spears was also affected by the heartbreaking situation in Louisiana. Spears is originally from Kentwood in Tangipahoa Parish, although she currently lives in Las Vegas. The singer called on prayers for her friends and family impacted.

There are an estimated 10,000 homes in Tangipahoa Parish that were damaged or destroyed in the flooding.

A couple of high profile celebrities opened their wallets to help with recovery efforts. Taylor Swift donated a whopping $1,000,000.

Swift called the news, "heartbreaking."

The country singer kicked off her 2015 world tour in Louisiana. Swift says fan made her feel at home.

Lady Gaga said Wednesday she and her family are chipping in to help victims.

The heavy rains displaced about 20,000 residents and left at least 13 people dead.

For others who would like to donate, text LA floods to 9-0-9-9-9. You'll see a $10 charge on your cell phone bill. All proceeds will go to local flood victims.
