State Police identify pedestrian killed in Tickfaw crash

TANGIPAHOA PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Louisiana State Police identified the woman killed in Friday's crash in Tickfaw as 36-year-old Jonie Fricano of Independence. The driver of a 2006 Ford Explorer, identified as 37-year-old Kevin Weston, struck and killed her shortly after 11 p.m. along US 51 near the intersection of Pardo Road.

According to an initial investigation, Weston was traveling northbound when he hit Fricano. The Tangiaphoa Parish Coroner's Office pronounced her dead on the scene. State troopers say Weston voluntarily provided a breath sample which showed no amount of alcohol.

Troopers remind that crashes involving pedestrians can often be avoided by following basic safety guidelines:

  • Pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing and should always avoid walking on the roadway in dark areas.
  • Pedestrians must also assume that approaching motorists cannot see them, especially at night.
  • Crossing roadways only in well-lit, designated areas and always walking facing traffic will enhance the safety for pedestrians.
