NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

New Orleans police and Louisiana State Police were forced to kill a man during a shootout involving a suspect who allegedly stole a vehicle.

State police made a traffic stop at Law St. and New Orleans St. around 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Three people got out of the vehicle and then the shooting started.

The gunmen struck a state trooper in the arm during the battle.

All of the accused ran away after the exchange.

Police showed up. The alleged crimes escalated.

A second encounter took place where one of the three perpetrators began firing at officers. The cops fired back and killed a man.

The two remaining suspects ran. NOPD SWAT, K9 and LSP set a perimeter around Hardin Playground. That’s in the 2600 block of Allen St.

Two of the perpetrators are still at-large.

Detectives are reviewing video footage from in-car cameras from both agencies as well as NOPD Body Worn Cameras that were activated at the scene.

The injured trooper is going to survive.

The feds will review the case. An autopsy is being performed on the deceased.
