LIVINGSTON PARISH (WVUE) - A Livingston Parish mother will soon face charges in the murder of her eight-year-old daughter.
According to sheriff's deputies 30-year-old Christine Courtney tried to kill herself Sunday morning in Walker, after killing her child Ariana Courtney.
Investigators say that deputies received a call about an aggravated battery in the 28000 block of Gaylord Road just after 9 a.m.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found 8-year-old Ariana with a deep laceration to her throat and several people at the scene restraining the child's Courtney.
Deputies had to restrain Courtney, who told them "people" were telling her to kill herself and the child.
Members of the Walker Police Department and the District 4 Fire Department performed CPR on the girl, but she was pronounced dead at the scene by the Livingston Parish Coroner.
Courtney was airlifted to Baton Rouge for surgery for self- inflicted wounds.
Deputies issued a first-degree murder warrant for her arrest.
