COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) -

Covington remains under a boil water advisory Tuesday morning after a pipe burst causing a loss of pressure in the system.

A 12-inch water main broke near the intersection of Jefferson and 15th avenues.

Deteriorating pipes have been an issue for many cities around the country.

Busted pipes in New Orleans create massive pot holes.

Monday afternoon, a neighbor of Covington Mayor Mike Cooper noticed the ground bubbling up near his home.

That small leak turned out to be a much larger issue after public works crews noticed a large crack in the pipe.

Crews replaced the pipe but not before water pressure dipped below state standards, prompting the boil water advisory.

The advisory affects residents, business and restaurant owners who have to change up their menus.

The Department of Health and Hospital inspectors will test the water again today.
