SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) - A man accused of raping a Slidell woman and holding her and her child hostage is behind bars, according to Slidell police.
Christopher Allen Hargett is accused of beating an adult woman in central Slidell and then raping her on August 12.
Hargett was then accused of holding the woman and her small child hostage in another room when family members came looking for them. He threatening to kill them if they said anything.
After several days on the run from police, the U.S. Marshall Service tracked Hargett down and arrested him in New Orleans for several outstanding warrants.
The warrants included second-degree rape, false imprisonment, second-degree battery, and criminal damage to property. Hargett also had an outstanding Mississippi warrant for a parole violation from a 2006 aggravated assault conviction. In that incident, Hargett stabbed one person several times in the back and head and then held three people hostage.
Hargett has six prior arrests including a felon carrying a concealed weapon, simple assault of a police officer, and numerous narcotics violations.
Hargett was taken from Orleans Parish Prison to the Slidell Police Department Monday where he was interrogated by Slidell detectives.
