COVINGTON, LA (WVUE) -

The City of Covington said it is making progress after issuing a boil water advisory as the result of a water main break.

The 12-inch break at Jefferson and 15th avenues, which occurred Monday, resulted in a significant loss of pressure and triggered the advisroy, which remained in effect Tuesday for the entire city.

The city said the ruptured water line was repaired Monday at approximately 9 p.m. Work crews were then able to flush water lines by opening fire hydrants during the night.

Water samples were taken at 23 points early Tuesday morning and delivered to the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals in Amite. The city expects to receive results by Wednesday afternoon and could lift the order sometime thereafter if the results are favorable.
