METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - From the first Drew Brees pass this preseason, to throughout training camp, it's obvious Brees and Brandin Cooks are on the same wavelength in the Saints offense.
"You know we're not all the way there yet, but it definitely feels like it," said Cooks. "There's been times throughout this camp that situations like that happen. I'm like okay, we're getting it. Mainly me, I'm getting it. He sees it, but now it's me getting on the same page and seeing what he's seeing."
For the third-straight offseason Cooks spent time in San Diego working with Brees. Their relationship was started by football, but now it's blossomed into so much more.
"The whole offseason is getting better, and getting on the same page. The same time, it's bigger than football. I see him as a big brother. The aspect of how he lives his life. That's the way I look at him. It's bigger than football. When you can connect on a different level, you're definitely going to want to go to war every single day when you see that person as your brother," said Cooks.
With the release of Hakeem Nicks, Cooks is the most-tenured receiver on the roster now. He feels it's no problem, responding 'my momma always said I was on old soul'.
