NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The legal battle over control of the Saints and Pelicans will go to trial Dec. 8.
According to our partners at Nola.com|The Times-Picayune, weeks of settlement talks have failed to produce a final agreement in a lawsuit seeking to take away ownership in the Saints and Pelicans from Tom Benson's estranged relatives.
U.S. District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo set a trial date Aug. 25, denying a mutual request by Benson and lawyers for his estranged heirs' trust funds to extend a delay in the case.
Benson sued in 2015 to remove shares in both sports franchises out of trust funds he created for his daughter and grandchildren. He says he wants to leave full ownership of the teams to his wife, Gayle Benson.
