HAMMOND, LA (WVUE) - A Hammond woman was killed when she was hit by a pickup truck as she was walking near the center of U.S. 190 in Hammond.
Authorities say April Lashawn Washington, 23, of Hammond was struck and killed as walking eastbound in the westbound lane of U.S. 190 near the intersection with Shadow Creek Drive.
Washington was walking near the center of the highway when the westbound pickup truck driven by Michael Drake of Albany hit her.
Washington sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Coroner's office.
Blood samples taken from both Washington and Drake will be send to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. But authorities said Drake is not suspected of being impaired at the time of the accident.
The investigation is ongoing.
This is the second fatal accident involving a pedestrian in Tangipahoa Parish within the last week.
