NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Today, the NOPD released details on memorial plans to honor the life of fallen Officer Tony Mitchell. Officer Mitchell was a 19-year veteran of the NOPD who died from injuries sustained in a traffic crash on August 26, 2016.
On Saturday, September 3, 2016, a public viewing and memorial service will be held at Household of Faith Family Worship Church, located at 2074 Paxton Street, Harvey, LA. Visitation will take place from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The memorial service will begin at 10 a.m.
The burial will take place at Garden of Memories Cemetery, located at 4900 Airline Drive. Funeral services are being provided by Rhodes Funeral Home.
The memorial service is open to the public.

A native of New Orleans and raised in Hollygrove, Mitchell graduated from Warren Easton High School in 1988. He received his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Grambling University in 1983, where he also played football under the late Eddie Robinson.
Mitchell joined the NOPD in 1997 serving in many roles including, Second District Task Force, Auto Theft Task Force, Special Operations Division Tactical, and most in the Eighth District.
