JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - A major improvement project at Metairie's Bonnabel boat launch is finished.
Jefferson Parish leaders say four new back-down ramps have been replaced and lengthened to the ends of the existing piers, a curb has been built and rip rap has been placed behind the curb at the boat launch.
Boaters will notice the new ramps have changed slightly to allow boats to lift off trailers more easily.
The area has also seen drainage improvements to avoid flooding near the facilities.
Jefferson Parish officials say the $614,261 project was designed by Meyers Engineers LTD and constructed by Ashley Savarino Unlimited. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Parks and Recreation Department funded the project.
"Our agency is always excited to help facilitate improved access to the outdoors," said Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Secretary Charlie Melancon. "The Sport Fish Restoration Program (Wallop-Breaux) is a tremendous resource that enables the state to provide funding to communities such as Jefferson Parish who are eager to encourage access to the Sportsman's Paradise for their citizens."
Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni along with some council members will hold a ribbon cutting celebration on Wednesday, August 31 at 2:00 p.m.
