BELLE CHASSE, LA (WVUE) - A shrimp boat crew member has been arrested for the murder of a fellow crew member, according to Plaquemines Parish District Attorney Charles Ballay.

Tam Thanh Ta, 44, of the 6100 block of Bayou Lacroix Road in Bay St. Louis, Miss. was arrested on Wednesday for the murder of Tao Dinh Nguyen, 48, of the 6600 block of Timbers Drive in Mobile, Ala.

The two men were crew members on the Captain Ben 4, a 60-foot shrimp trawler out of Biloxi.

Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich Jr. said it was Plaquemines Parish's first homicide of the year.

It is also the first Plaquemines Parish homicide in over two years, the last one coming in January 2014.

On August 3, a body believed to be Nguyen's was found floating in Pass Tante Phine/Sugar Lake Bayou in Venice, La.

An autopsy determined the death a homicide. The body showed signs of blunt force trauma and was identified by a family member.

Detectives collected several pieces of evidence linking Ta Tam Thanh Ta to the murder.

He is charged with second-degree murder and was arrested on August 10 at the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office Detention Center where he was being held on a Mississippi parole violation and rebooked on the murder warrant.

He remains in custody without bond.
