JEFFERSON PARISH, LA (WVUE) - Second-degree murder warrants have been issued for a Marrero couple in the death of their 2-year-old boy whose body was found under the Huey P. Long Bridge in early July, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office.
The boy's mother, 21-year-old Gabrielle Whittington, is at large. The father, 21-year-old Onterio Thompson, is in custody in St. Tammany Parish on unrelated charges, and will be turned over to JPSO at a later date.
On July 5, investigators from the JPSO and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office began an investigation into the whereabouts of 2-year-old Timothy Thompson. From the beginning, Whittington and Thompson's story regarding their son's whereabouts contained several inconsistencies and falsehoods, according to a JPSO news release. Investigators were able to determine that in spite of being told the child was in the care of a relative who lived out of state, he was not.
On July 6, Thompson led detectives to the boy's body in a shallow grave near the levee under the Huey P. Long Bridge in the 5500 block of River Road. An autopsy was performed July 7. As a result, murder arrest warrants were issued Thursday.
Detectives have not been able to locate Whittington. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to contact Homicide Detective Jean Lincoln at (504) 364-5300 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
