NOPD identifies pair wanted for residential burglaries

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The New Orleans Police Department obtained arrest warrants for a couple wanted in connection with breaking into a couple of homes and stealing items.

Kristian Willemoes, 36, and Ekaterina "Katya" Sitnikova, 34, are wanted.

Police say a woman who lives in the 900 block of Lowerline said she left her home on August 20 around 10:30 p.m. When she returned the next day, she noticed her back door open and her laptop missing. The victim's roommate told police she was sleeping when she noticed an unknown male walking in her room. She said he apologized and left. The roommate told police, she didn't think much of it and assumed the man was an acquaintance of the victim.

In a separate incident, a victim in the 1500 block of Calhoun told police he awoke from a nap on August 30 around 3:00 p.m. and noticed his cell phone, wallet and black laptop missing from his living room. The victim also told officers someone used his credit card within 30 minutes of it being stolen. Police say when they got to the home, they did not find any signs of forced entry and believe the front door was unlocked while the victim was sleeping.

A Crimestoppers tip led the NOPD to identify the suspects. Willemoes is wanted in connection to several simply burglary incidents and Sitnikova is wanted in connection to fraud in the Second District.

Investigators believe the suspects may be responsible for similar crimes in the area.
