NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

NOPD investigators say two thieves made off with camera equipment from victims waiting for an Uber to arrive early Wednesday morning.

The victims told investigators they had placed the equipment on the ground at the intersection of Palmetto and Eagle Streets when a dark SUV with tinted windows pulled up at about 6 a.m.

The vehicle stopped in front of them and a man started talking to them.

The victims say they were afraid for their safety so they ran. That's when they say a man got out of the vehicle and stole the camera gear.

Police provided a number of stock photos of the kind of items that were taken, including  a camera, lenses and other accessories.

Investigators hope the public might be able to help identify the people responsible for the theft.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or call Crimestoppers at 822-1111.
