LOCKPORT, LA (WVUE) -

Lockport Police arrested a man accused of trying to sell a stolen firearm on a social media site.

On Sept. 1, a woman reported that someone burglarized her car and stole a handgun, a wallet and several other items.

The next day police say officers got a tip that Dylan Matherne of Lockport was trying to sell a gun on social media that matched the description of the stolen handgun.

Detectives made contact with Matherne and questioned him about the incident. Matherne claimed he received the gun from someone to sell it and that he did not know it was stolen.

Detectives were able to recover the stolen firearm, and Matherne was placed under arrest.

He was transferred to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearm. He was released on Sept. 3, after posting $1,500 bond.
