NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Just when you thought it might get better, starting today, traffic congestion Uptown will get even worse.
Freret Street on the west side of Jefferson Avenue will be closed for about five months.
Crews, working for the Sewerage and Water Board and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will be building an underground culvert.
Traffic traveling eastbound (downtown) on Freret Street will not be able to access Jefferson Avenue and will be detoured at Nashville Avenue and Octavia Street.
Traffic traveling westbound (Uptown) on Freret Street will be able to turn north on Jefferson Avenue, but will not be able to cross Jefferson Avenue.
The closure will not affect northbound traffic on Jefferson Avenue.
Drivers dropping off and picking up students at nearby schools are advised to plan accordingly.
