Crash kills teen, another critically injured in Assumption Parish

BELLE ROSE, LA (WVUE) - A Belle Rose teenager was killed and her sister was seriously injured in an accident in Assumption Parish Wednesday night.

According to the Louisiana State Police, the two teens were riding on the tailgate of a pickup truck before the crash.

Frannie Landry, 38, was driving a 2003 GMC Sierra on LA 1000 near LA 1002 when she stopped on the road just after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. The truck was facing east in the westbound lane.

Investigators say Belle Rose resident, Corey Crochet, 21, was approaching westbound and struck Landry's truck when he tried turning his pickup truck to avoid a head-on collision.

Sydny Landry, 15, and her 12-year-old sister were in the back of Landry's truck along with some garbage cans. The impact of the crash ejected them from the truck.

The Assumption Parish Coroner's Office pronounced Sydny dead on the scene. Emergency responders flew Camie to a Baton Rouge hospital for treatment.

Investigators do not suspect impairment as a factor in the accident.

Both drivers, who were not hurt in the crash, took breath tests. The presence of alcohol was not detected.

The crash remains under investigation.
