NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A memorial that honors lives lost in the Deepwater Horizon disaster goes public in New Orleans September 9.

Artist Jason Kimes offers a preview of the memorial with posts on his Facebook page. The display consists of thousands of doubloon-sized steel disks shaped into the forms of 11 people.

An explosion of the Deepwater Horizon rig in the Gulf of Mexico killed 11 people in 2010. Our partners at Nola.com|The Times-Picayune report the memorial will be displayed on the median of Elysian Fields Avenue, near the corner of Dauphine Street.
