NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A suspect or suspects looking to shoot one person ended up killing one person and injuring several in a hail of gunfire Sunday night in Central City.
The multiple shooting where six people were injured, included one person who was shot in the head. That victim died Monday. The other five victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of First and South Derbigny streets.
The full count of victims was not immediately available last night because about half of the victims were taken to different hospitals in private vehicles.
Detectives are searching for any video evidence or additional witnesses who may have information about the incident and who is responsible.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Sixth District or Crimestoppers today.
Through an initial investigation, police believe the suspect or suspects intended to shoot at on individual who was at that location and end ended up shooting several bystanders in the process.
Police are investigating the possibility that the shooting may be connected to other violence reported in the district over the past few weeks.
