LAPLACE, LA (WVUE) - A LaPlace man is accused of shooting and killing his wife during what police are calling a "domestic issue," according to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff's office.
Richard Starks, Jr, 55, of the 100 block of Oak Arbor Street in LaPlace, is charged with one count of second-degree murder in the death of his wife Carreta Davis Starks, 47.
Early Tuesday, St. John deputies responded to a call of a reported shooting.
The caller, Starks, told deputies he accidentally shot his wife during an argument.
When deputies arrived, Starks came out of the house with his hands up, surrendering to police. He was detained without incident.
Deputies then entered the home and found Carreta Davis Starks on the living room floor with a gunshot wound to the head.
EMS attempted to revive her, but she was unresponsive. She was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. John the Baptist Parish coroner's office.
During the course of the investigation, detectives found a semi-automatic firearm on the floor near the body.
Richard Starks Jr. was arrested and booked for second-degree murder.
Bond has not yet been set.
