NOPD officer put in headlock, thrown to ground

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

A New Orleans police officer was put in a headlock and thrown to the ground after responding to mental disturbance in eastern New Orleans.

The Seventh District officer was responding to a call in the 4500 block of Ray Ave. The person who called said he was afraid to enter his residence because someone was inside, according to the NOPD.

At some point, the person who called the officer approached him, put him in a headlock and tossed him to the ground.

Officers immediately apprehended the man and brought him to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

The officer was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries to the head. He is listed in good condition.
