NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) -

A large stretch of I-610 will close this weekend to allow construction crews to install steel girders for the reconstruction of the Wisner Bridge.

The closures will begin at 10 p.m. tonight (Friday) and last through Monday morning at 5 a.m.

The westbound lanes will be closed entirely. The eastbound lanes will close from the I-10 split at the Metairie line to St Bernard Avenue.

The following detours are recommended while the stretch is closed.

For eastbound traffic:

Instead of exiting at West End and Canal boulevards, drivers should use I-10 east to the Metairie Road/City Park Avenue exit

Traffic usually exiting I-610 at St. Bernard Avenue should use I-10 east to North Claiborne Avenue

Instead of exiting I-610 at Elysian Fields or Franklin avenues, drivers will need to take I-10 east to Elysian Fields

For westbound traffic:

Instead of exiting I-610 at Elysian Fields Avenue, North Broad Street or Paris Avenue, drivers should use the Chef Menteur Highway or Franklin Avenue

Instead of exiting I-610 at Canal Boulevard, drivers will need to take I-10 west to Florida Boulevard or West End
