LIVINGSTON PARISH (WVUE) -

Livingston Parish deputies said two people were arrested for stealing from a Dehnam Springs church.

On September 11, deputies said they were called to Christ Community Church on Juban Road.

The church was being used as a shelter for displaced flood victims and a distribution center at the time of the theft.

Deputies said that Leslie Burch and Robert Johnson, created a scene to distract volunteers at the shelter by telling them that someone had taken ill and needed immediate attention. When volunteers went to see what was happening, deputies said the two stole two purses.

Detectives were able to find the stolen purses after arresting the couple.

Leslie Burch faces two counts of illegal possession of stolen things, possession of marijuana, theft of a firearm and felony theft.

Robert Johnson faces two counts of illegal possession of stolen things, possession of marijuana, theft of a firearm, and driving under suspension.
