(WVUE) - GE Appliances announced a recall of about 220,000 top-loading high-efficiency washers because of concerns that an internal electrical component can overheat and catch fire.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said GE received 71 complaints about the components either burning or catching fire. That includes reports of three fires blamed for causing roughly $129,000 in property damage.
The recalled washers were sold nationwide between June 2003 and October 2011. Customers should look for the model numbers: WPGT9350,
WPGT9360 and WPGT9150.
Customers should contact GE Appliances for a free repair by calling 877-830-9732 or going to the company's website.
