NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - The NOPD on Tuesday arrested A 22-year-old woman for her role in a fight that left a 9-month-old baby injured, police said.
Edwardnisha Raiford was arrested around 1 p.m. in the 1700 block of Mandeville Street. Raiford told detectives that she was targeting an unknown female holding the baby but mistakenly hit the baby with a knife.
The incident happened Monday afternoon at the intersection of Mandeville and North Derbigny streets. Based on the investigation, officers learned that a fight had occurred between two groups of people at the location. During the altercation, members of one of the groups brandished knives and another from the same group fired gunshots.
A total of four victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the knives. The victims included three females, including the 9-month-old baby, and one male. No injuries were reported from the gunfire.
