Two men arrested for allegedly stealing cigarettes

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans police arrested two men for the armed robbery of a Circle K convenience store.

Investigators say just before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Elijah Brooks, 52, told the manager at the store in the 6000 block of Magazine Street that he had a gun. When she couldn't open the register, he pulled out a black garbage bag and started taking cartons of cigarettes.

Elijah Brooks and another man, identified as Samuel Brooks, 50, left the store in a green pickup truck. When officers found and approached the truck, the two men sped off until they crashed into a parked car at the intersection of Second and Carondelet dtreets. The men ran from the scene of the accident, but officers caught them and took them to University Medical Center to be treated for the injuries they sustained in the crash.

The store manager positively identified both men, who were booked with armed robbery and flight from an officer.
