HOUMA, LA (WVUE) - Houma Police arrested a mother after her 2-year-old child was found wandering the streets while the mom was reportedly asleep at home. On Thursday morning just before 6 a.m., police were tipped of a toddler found walking near the intersection of Canal and Academy Street unsupervised. At no point did the mother attempt to notify authorities of her child being missing.
Finally, after two hours, police officers were able to identify the child, then proceeded to go the child's home where they found the mother, 32-year-old Netta N. Verdin asleep. Upon making contact with Verdin officers found that she was asleep and did not know that the child had even left home. Further investigation revealed that Verdin had smoked marijuana prior to going to bed and was still in possession of a small amount of marijuana. Verdin was then arrested for one count of Child Desertion and one count of possession of CDS I.
