NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - After a less-than-impressive 3-of-12 passing, 21-yard performance by freshman Johnathan Brantley, Tulane Head Football Coach Willie Fritz is still looking for a clear #1 quarterback Uptown. With ULL coming to the Crescent City Saturday, is it Brantley or Glen Cuiellette running with the first team?
"Nah we haven't, not a 100 percent yet," said Fritz. "We're probably going to wait until Thursday. Just like game one, game two, game three, those guys did some good things. There's some things we need to improve on."
The players aren't ready to weigh in on a starter, but Brantley could get the edge if you look at past performances.
"I could see that, but right now coach said it's a toss-up. As of now I don't know exactly, but he has potential to start every week," said quarterback Glen Cuiellette.
Hey it can only get better for Brantley, he's only played two games, and started one.
"It's still football, but it's faster. I can still play. Just go out and play, don't overthink anything," said Brantley.
"I didn't want to tell him too much in the game. I really care about my teammates, that's who I am now," said Cuiellette. "Be a great teammate for him, and help my own personal goals too. I told him you got to calm down out there, you know what to do. You know how to run the offense, you've been doing it since you got here. Don't overthink it, just simple it down."
Tulane is favored by five points on Saturday against ULL. The Ragin' Cajuns starting quarterback is LSU transfer Anthony Jennings.
