JPSO, FBI investigating afternoon robbery at Metairie bank

METAIRIE, LA (WVUE) - The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a robbery that took place Friday afternoon in Metairie.

Deputies say the robbery happened around 4:30 p.m. at the First American Bank and Trust at 1800 Veterans Memorial Boulevard.

Employees at the bank told detectives that a man wearing dark colored clothing, a black mask covering his face and gloves walked into the bank brandishing a handgun. The suspect then approached two bank tellers who handed over an undisclosed amount of money.

The suspect then fled the bank and was seen by witnesses getting into a late model, dark colored Toyota Camry. Witnesses told detectives the vehicle fled the south on Bonnabel Boulevard.

Detectives say the suspect is described as a white male between 40 and 50 years-old, between 5'11" and 6'1" tall, medium build with dark hair, light facial hair and a goatee.

The FBI is assisting JPSO with the investigation.
