HARVEY, LA (WVUE) -

A 4-year-old and a 3-month-old are in critical condition after a Monday crash in Harvey that sent a total of five people to the hospital.

Sheriff Newell Normand says 51-year-old Curtis Carroll was issued a citation for the accident after his pick-up truck crashed into a minivan, causing it to flip over.

Shortly before noon, officers were called to Destrehan Avenue and First Avenue.Traffic Enforcement Lieutenant George Guiterrez conducted the investigation and determined that Carroll was driving a 2014 Dodge Ram pickup truck north on First Avenue. When he got to the stop sign at Destrehan Avenue, he told officers he didn't see the approaching 2002 Oldsmobile minivan being driven by 28-year-old Sinclair Matthew.

The truck then clipped the minivan, causing it to flip over. With the van resting on its roof, rescue crews worked to get all five people, including three children, out of the van. They were all transported to University Hospital. Four-year-old Jamar Jones and 3-month-old Jaliyah Martin are in intensive care in critical condition. There was no information on the condition of the three others, which includes includes Matthew, 25-year-old Jamisha Jones and 2-year-old Jayda Martin.

It's unknown if all of the occupants of the minivan were properly secured at the time of the accident.

Carroll was issued a citation for failure to yield.
