ST. JAMES PARISH, LA (WVUE) -

Scary clowns have now appeared in St. James Parish, according to the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Department.

Around 5:45 p.m. Monday afternoon, deputies responded to a call from the Matherne’s Supermarket in Paulina.

Two individuals entered the store wearing Halloween masks. They were not aggressive toward anyone in the store, authorities say.

They left the store when management asked them to leave.

There has been a rash of “scary clown” sightings in several states over the past month. Several people were arrested in Alabama over the past week.

Authorities are asking anyone with information about the identities of the two individuals should call the sheriff's office at 225-562-2200.

Authorities also ask anyone who may see similar behavior to contact the sheriff's office immediately.
