New Orleans police say they quickly tracked down the man accused of stealing the steering column out of a vehicle in the 3300 block of St. Roch Avenue in Gentilly on Wednesday morning.

The victim called police just after 4 a.m. after hearing noises near his vehicle and seeing a man walking away. Officers stopped Shawn McFloyd, 37, who matched the description the victim gave, walking along Elysian Fields Avenue. They say McFloyd was carrying a large kitchen knife, a tire iron, vice grips, and a knife sharpening tool.

Officers believe McFloyd could be responsible for other incidents in the area. If you have information that can help with their investigation, call the Third District at (504) 658-6030 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
